Color Coding My Family – Keeping It Simple

About 6 inches of snow was dumped on us and he have been house bound all day and looks like it may be that way for another day or 2. I had a few minutes and was spending some time on the internet looking for some activity ideas for homeschooling. Especially those I can incorporate the snow theme into and I came across Teach Mama and her color coding. I thought I was the only one that did this (even though I knew I wasn’t).
Caleb is blue, Emma is pink and Colby is green. It keeps our life very simple and less arguing between the kids. They already know which color belongs to them no matter the object. Everything – toys, chairs, plates, cups, blankets, toothbrushes, towels, rags, clothes – you name it. Even down to goggles, swim rings and floaties. And lets not forget about gloves, hats and scarves.
Our extended family has even learned the children’s colors. Most of the family want to spoil them with something like a watch, hula hoop, ball, shoes, or whatever they can. They immediately know to buy 3 different colors and which colors to buy. Makes things simple for them, too!
During our homeschooling lessons, I even write and teach their lessons by their colors. It has helped them learn their colors easier too. We also incorporate this into a graph lesson and the children know which mark is theirs by their color.
It may sound funny but it has been one of the best things in our family to help keep things in order. Feel free to let me know if you do the same for your family. I would love any new ideas.
